General Comments

Posted 01/07/09 15:35
I've had a bit of writer's block since getting out of hospital because it took quite a heavy toll on my ability to think straight (obsessively?) again. There's been so much media to analyse and I'm constantly playing catch-up, which is why I gave myself something quite mechanical to do with the video. I thought about calling it a day because there are so many Adam websites that are much more on the pulse but I've been encouraged by your comments and realised I just needed a bit more time to get back into the flow. I'm setting up this post as one for general comments and suggestions or ideas that aren't related to specific posts. I'll move it when I write my next post but I'll keep linked on the 'Welcome' section on the right.

  1. I have a question - I missed the entire season this year, but I have since caught myself up after watching Adam on YouTube sing WLL, wow! My question is, how did he get to sing Satisfaction twice? Did everyone sing twice or was he given the mic because he had more votes that night - what gives? Just curious - I love both versions and his performance proves what an amazing artist he is. Everyone else would have just done a repeat performance - not our Adam however! Thanks ahead of time to whom ever answers.

  2. Melinda,
If my memory serves right, each of the semi-finalists got to perform, then in the results show, the ones who got through all performed again. So all the finalists have two semi-final performances (I think!).

  3. Jus found your site from the "improved audio" you did on 'Starlight' vid...Great job and Thank you for doing it and posting. I have also enjoyed reading your blog, you're an excellent writer. Thanks again!

  4. I enjoy your blog greatly. Finding all the new and constant updates about Adam is taxing, but it's awesome you take the time to conglomerate it all for other fans. I certainly appreciate it!
Also, I don't know if you're interested yourself or could pub it some, I have started a fan fiction about Adam that merges his life on idol and an experience I would have killed for as a photojournalist. Here is the link:

It's still in the baby stages but I'm quite proud of the chapters I've completed. The third one should be out soon. Even if you just read it, I would love some input.

Thanks again for all you do.

I came to the party late so I am catching up on past blogs and vids and am enjoying reminiscing on the AI stuff. Thanks so much for all your work..it is greatly enjoyed and appreciated!!!!!

  8. Found your website quite by accident and I'm so glad I did!! I've never responded to a blog before, but I felt it was necessary to let you know how much I enjoy your writing style, your terrific choice of vocabulary and your insights into such a time-consuming yet worthwhile subject(ADAM LAMBERT). I really "feed off" your creative ventures about such an iconic individual and I look forward every day to see what you have to say about him!!

  12. thanks for weeding through all of the many and then posting, the great vancouver videos. the videographer had a great vantage point and, for the 1st time since I have been watching all the shows, I was able to get a good feel for Adam's personality coming through in his performance. He is incredible in this tour so far and I can imagine that he is stealing the shows as folks have been saying. it makes me all the more anxious to see him in August in cols. OH.....

  13. This is one of the most intelligent, interesting and fascinating articles I've read about Adam. I am also obsessed, which came as a complete and exciting surprise! Yes, I've been around a bit, but this is all new to me, so I really appreciate your insight. Thank you!

  15. You are a fabulous writer and I lok forward to seeing updates every day. I was at the Portland concert and am amazed at how much more I see on the videos than in real life (I was way up in the
nosebleed section seats). Still, there will never be anything like having been present at his 1st performance on a large concert stage.
That will be a memory to treasure when he is a worlwide superstar. I am 61 and my grandson is 20 and we both loved the concert. I notice that fans seem to range from very young to the oldest mentioned on a blog (91)! Keep up the good work.

  16. Wow, what a great blog!!!! I follow couple of “adam blogs”, and just came across yours thru “youtube”; it is in my favourites now; brilliant!!!! Great job!!!
I am 45 woman from New Zealand; I am as obsessed with Adam as you are (and probably millions of others). Let me tell ya, if I decide to spend the some amount of time on learning or exercise, as I do watching and listening to adam, I’d be next Nobel prize winner or Olympian gold medal winner ….. it is my drug of choice, and as every drug it takes me from high to low from pleasure to guilt………. Sexiest – hottest – loveliest – beautiful all around!!! Adore him!!!!!
    Keep up the good work!!!!

  19. Your writing is brilliant!! I’ve read and re-read your accounts off Adam’s journey and they still make my heart skip a bit. You OUGHT to write; you have a great sense of capturing and describing details that other could miss; very insightful very emotionally charged. Cover description is stand out; well done. My favourite post was “Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhh” – you captured feelings of millions so accurately with just few words! It was spot on; I felt your pain. I live in New Zealand and AI was showing here 2 days behind; I remember I was at work and googling results every 10 minutes to find out who won…. And then I did….. Also, RS that we get here is not USA, it’s Australian; luckily I work with a girl from usa and she got her parents to buy me a copy (apparently they got a last copy from the stand) and send over; still waiting to arrive thou. I have to ask you (I hope you don’t mind) – are you male or female? P.s. English is my second language, sorry for all grammar errors.

  24. Your commentary and videos of Adam are almost like being there. I can hardly wait until he comes to Indianapolis in September. I think that it would be cool if you did a compilation along with your comments and out it on dvd.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Anonymous(es), thank you for your comments - hope you've got your RS now. Your grammar is fine!
I'm glad you enjoy the writing - sometimes when I sit down for a brief post, I end up with a long essay. I guess it's the Adam Effect. Almost caught up so hopefully more writing soon in between making videos. It's great to share my obsession with you.

Vicki, you're welcome. Thanks for visiting and commenting.

kmartin, I doubt it! Even though I don't consider myself to be a crazed stalker, the blog title might scare him away. Thanks for sharing your fantastic inner thought - it has sent our imaginations ticking away...

adamspirit1, haha, yes, I did find myself rather irritated to have things like real life disrupt this obsession! The tour is so intense that it takes a long time to clear a week's backlog.

Sarah, seeing him late on in the tour will be amazing as he'll have time to perfect everything. Good idea, I might well do that, thanks.

  29. Thank you, Adam Bombed...you are a true artist! Your videos and essays are fantastic This is definitely the most sophisticated and beautiful site i've found dedicated to this unbelievable creature from Who-Knows-Which-Planet! i am a 58-year-old lesbian mother with two grown sons who think my obsession with Adam is truly weird; however, it really goes beyond the physical for me. Adam is a true one-in-a-lifetime phenomenon! (i have never even cared about AI before this year and know i never will again) i just savor each new performance to see how his artistry grows and evolves... i wish him SAFETY and HEALTH as his journey onto the world stage has only just begun...

  35. I am so HAPPY you are back. Your loss has been devastating, I know. Hope you are feeling a bit better, it takes time, of course. I am a mature, well educated Canadian woman, of the opinion that your blog is the most well articulated, insightful and intelligent record I have seen of the journey of Adam Lambert. I print off many of your essays (they are much more than just blogs) and a particular favorite is "Will the Real Adam Lambert Please Stand Up" He is an enigma, and you captured that in your piece very well. I have lived to see all of the great ones , and there are very few; Elvis, Michael Jackson and arguably Elton John. I believe Adam has the potential to surpass each one in his own way. Please think of yourself as the chronicler of pop culture, which has a huge impact on the human experience. You should write a book on this subject.....your mother would be so proud. Thanks so much for your efforts.

  36. Thank you a million for coming back! I need this fix more than I realized. Your videos are teriffic.
Btw, based on the videos, which performances do you think are best? Which town got the Best Of Adam? Or was WLL better in one location but Slow Ride better in another? I love all the videos, but I think (??) Newark got the best, and probably the 2nd night. Just wondering.

  37. I'm glad you enjoy this blog, you've certainly helped to motivate me to keep it going, so thank you.

jessdivin, it's so hard to choose a single performance for each song. I couldn't follow much of the tour in real-time and ended up watching half of it in a few days which blurred the stops together. I like so many for different reasons. I love some for the vocals, some for the fun factor, some for the props, some for the showmanship... I think I'll have to watch them all again and get back to you!

  38. Hey Adam Bombed
Wonder if you could help me. I've started a blog of my own called Adam Lambert Sings. It's music focused like yours, but different in format and aim (islasands.com/wp. I'm trying to get together all Adam's Idol performances. The best ones on youtube have been pulled, and I wondered if you would let me use your ones - with all credits to you and your site, of course. I hope you're not offended by me asking. 41. Simply stunning. Rob Cavallo said that Adam recorded 3 songs backed up by a 30 piece orchestra (TFM and two others on the album). I can discern 3 levels of Adam's voice (THAT VOICE !) as he overdubs himself, and the combination of the two has produced a vocal and instrumental masterpiece. So proud of Adam.

  42. I'm so glad you're back, better than ever...despite being ill. Your site is the best; the first I've seen with more than 30 seconds of Adam's songs. I LOVE your analyses. Can't wait to keep reading your posts!

Your blog has been the absolute best for the last year - since Adam rocked our world by appearing in it - I almost always agree with your insights and find you saying what I'm thinking plus depth.

I'm building an acoustic playlist of Adam tracks that are not yet recorded and feeling guilty because he certainly deserves to be paid - hopefully there will be an acoustic EP or a live album after Glamnation.

  60. Adam represents a change in perception, he has pushed boundaries to the brink of what we believe, he has proven his claim that “sexy is sexy”. Adam is conquering the world with his powerful alpha personality, audacious masculine beauty, his openness, intelligence, whimsical charm and the most technically beautiful voice in the music industry today.

Now feel free to read this article by Kerry Kolsch in it’s entirety, it explains alot!!!

  61. Hi Adam Bombed! Your blog is amazing:) I've just discovered Adam this summer, I live in Norway and didn't get to watch AI last year. (Missed out on something big, I see that now...) But now I'm a Glambert, have bought both CD's (Take one and FYE) and I'm reading and watching everything I can find about Adam online. And your site is absolutely the best I've seen so far:)
I have bookmarked your site, so I click into it every single day. I've never posted a comment in a blog before either, but I just had to do it!
Since I live in Norway, I'm hoping and praying for Adam to come to Europe on tour, I'll even travel to another country if he doesn't visit Norway:) He's an inspiration for me, I've started working out, listening to his music!
Keep up the good work, and remember; All we need in this world is some love:)

Do you know that he has Norwegian ancestry? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUP4sya4-h4 I understand well the feeling of finding out everything about Adam online and it's something that eats up so much time but is also too fascinating to give up!
I believe he'll be coming to Europe in autumn, so hope you can get to see him then.
Which are your favourite performances of his? It's interesting to know what was it about him that got you hooked.
Thanks for visiting and commenting, I hope you enjoy it here!

  64. Adam Lambert to debut on the silver screen? According to IMDB, Adam Lambert is listed as one of the actors for the upcoming film "American Empire" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1260049/!

There is no official confirmation other than the IMDB page but if Adam is really going to act in movies, that would be very exciting!

  69. Hi AB:) I didn't know that Adam had Norwegian ancesters, thanks for link:) I also have family in Trondheim!
The reason why I began searching for Adam online is that I'd heard WWFM on the radio, I thought it was a beautiful and strong song. One of the radiostations had a contest; you could win a trip to New York, and go to one of Adam's shows - and meet&greet after the show. I usually participate in such contests, but this time I actually didn't enter... :( Of course I regret this VERY much now. (I have won a few contests on radio before, even won a trip to China last year.) So when I searched online and found vids and pics of Adam, and listened to his music, I was hooked. Love at first sight:) My husband and two boys doesn't really understand what's going on, but I've actually found some inspiration in Adam's music, and started working out and eating healthier, and feeling great!
I don't have a favourite performance yet, I think there are so many good ones.
Do you know what's the story about/behind the album "Take one"? I bought it from Amazon.com, just because its Adam, but I don't think he got to have any artistic influence in it...

Now I'm off to twitter, sending my love to TommyJoe and his family...

(By the way, I'm @monflaa on Twitter:)

  70. Glambert is the real deal.

And not just because he introduced lasers to the Crystal Ballroom for the first time in memory last night. Because he’s a supremely confident performer who nonetheless projects a charming soupçon of humility onstage. Because his show is precisely ordered and choreographed, yet he still found time to get silly with his dancers and the audience. Because he doesn’t need to stick strictly to the melodies of his songs, but at the same time doesn’t get lost in a mist of melismas. Because he had the balls and taste to perform his hit single, “What Do You Want From Me”, in a stripped-down version accompanied only by acoustic guitar, and played his popular American Idol cover, “Mad World”, in a sped-up and funkier take than the one he did on the show. Because in his exotic recasting of “Ring of Fire”, the gay subtext gives the line “I went down, down, down” a sly new shade of meaning, and because he sings “I fell for you like a cheeeyiiild” with an Axl Rose inflection. Because his skills allow him to transcend sometimes mediocre material. Because his dancers, sets and lighting are beautifully campy without getting Gaga-diculous about it, especially on one number featuring a rear projection of a neon-colored skull in a style reminiscent of native art accompanied by skull-masked dancers (a troupe of four who performed intermittently throughout the night). Because even his in-ear monitors were bedecked with glitter. Because his tight band celebrates diversity with a woman keyboardist, dreadlocked African-American drummer, and, um, Jewish maybe? lead guitarist and musical director, who also happens to play guitar for Madonna (Lambert himself has a Jewish background, by the way; and the band’s bassist was absent on the night due to a family emergency, but wasn’t sorely missed musically). Because he drew a somewhat diverse crowd, if a bit heavy on Beaverton tweens and their soccer moms gleefully singing along to every word. Because his elastic voice requires no auto-tune, yet every run, scream, and growl stays precisely on pitch. Because he ended his show with “Whole Lotta Love,” substituting the gender-neutral “Baby, you need love” for “Woman….”

Because this culture hasn’t been able to tolerate a male glam superstar since Freddie Mercury died, and if someone’s gotta do the job, this good-natured up-and-comer might as well be it. No, of course, he’s no Freddie, nor, seemingly, much of a provocateur (despite kissing a dude at the American Music Awards). His 21st-century take on glam is tamer, less freaky and more squeaky-clean and readily marketable than the style’s past. But an openly gay, creatively open-minded, widely popular artist who can really sing is a very good thing, regardless of what “reality” he may have emerged from. Long may he reign.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Cougar65, I've been away so just managing to catch up now. Have you heard any more news about Tommy's dad? I'm feeling sad about Longineu's departure at the end of the tour. I think he's an excellent drummer and a key part the band but it was inevitable he wasn't in it for the long haul. He's full of ambition and I guess this isn't enough for him.

missmonica, you might even be a distant relative! It's always interesting to hear about how people discovered Adam and it's great that he's had such a positive effect on you. Is WWFM your favourite song of his from the FYE album? I tend to prefer the bonus tracks.
I posted about 'Take One' last year. The album name was originally called 'On with the Show' with the song 'December' originally being called 'Want'. They were songs written by other people and recorded as demos, but when Adam became famous, the record company decided to cash in by releasing the album before FYE. They were trying to trick people into thinking it was his first album. Most of the fans tried to boycott the album, condemning the behaviour of the record company, especially as Adam wanted to distance himself from it.

Anonymous, excellent comments! You summed up very well what we love and find so irresistible about Adam.
Compared to the Freddie Mercury era, we seem so much more conservative now. I'm not sure it's because our culture can't tolerate it though, I think it's because music has become so fragmented, elitist and fickle, it's difficult to build up a following for that type of superstar icon. Also, that kind of talent and showmanship is very rare but I do fancy Adam's chances as he has both in plentiful supply.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Hi AB, thanks for the info:)
I love all the songs on FYE, especially Strut and If I had you. When I'm working out, I always listen to Adams music. Love the beat in these two songs, they make me push myself harder:)

  74. For those of you hoping that Adam Lambert would pick up a nomination for the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, prepare to be disappointed. The full list of nominations are in for the awards (airing September 12), and the "American Idol" singer is not a part of the list.

Granted, there was a great deal of competition this year in between Lady Gaga's amazing work, Eminem's return to form, and even the stunning success of B.o.B. with "Airplanes". Although the omission from the Best Male Video and Best Pop Video categories may come as a surprise, the real shocker is that Adam was not put up for Best New Artist with his friend Ke$ha or teen sensation Justin Bieber. Rather, the selection committee went with Broken Bells' for "The Ghost Inside', a video that features Christina Hendricks from "Mad Men".

Adam was also shut out in all of the technical categories, making him one of the biggest omissions of the day. (The number of nominations for Beyonce -- who had the "best video of all time" last year -- comes as more of a surprise.)

  75. Cougar65 said: If you didn't get to see Adam Lambert's sold-out concert Friday at Copley Symphony Hall in San Diego, you may still get a chance.

A film crew from the E! Network was there Friday night filming footage for an upcoming "True Hollywood Story" documentary on the life and times of the Rancho Penasquitos-raised pop star.

Local television news crews, who'd arrived to film the singer's return to San Diego on his first solo tour, were turned away at the doors because E! had purchased film rights for the night. An E! camera crew could be seen filming from the stage and photographing some of Lambert's most colorful fans ---- a mix of seniors in silver sequins, cougars wearing homemade "Team Adam" badges, and self-described "hot moms" from Rancho Penasquitos, where Lambert graduated from high school in 2000.

No word from E! on when the episode will air, though a fan at the concert Friday said she asked an E! staffer for the air date and was later told it would be in mid-November.

  77. Cougar65, thank you for keeping me so well informed of the latest news, I find it so hard to keep up with everything these days.
The news about Tommy's dad brings back so much personal sadness for me from exactly a year ago. I'm glad Tommy seems to be dealing with circumstances fairly well on the surface and that many fans have shown him their support.

  78. Hi AB. I've just found your blog and thought it was a gold mine. Love it so much. I have not read all, but love what I've run through. By the way, what do you think about Aftermath live? I did not quite like it on the album, but when I heard it here http://www.youtube.com/user/indybeck71#p/u/7/uRNR6gaacXs, I fell for it immediately. Adam's voice in lower register is so beautiful. Another thing is have you seen this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQE83Z2sht0 ? What do you think about him being able to hold his notes while bending all the way back at the end? Love

  79. Anonymous, thank you for visiting!I hope you continue to enjoy the site. I'm a bit behind with Glam Nation at the moment but hope to catch up soon.
I'm completely with you when it comes to Aftermath. I wasn't keen on the album version either as I think it sounds a bit dated and over-produced. I much prefer the sparser acoustic arrangement.
Thanks for the video link. WOW. Just WOW. He's fucking amazing!

  80. Cougar65 here!!

Just wanted you to know that you are missed!!! Hope you are well and back soon!! Miss your comments!! Adam seems to be getting better with every performance... love, love, love him!!!

I agree, Aftermath acoustic is much better!!

  81. Cougar65, again! Soaked is still my all time favorite...wonder what he thinks about during the short pause?????

    ReplyDelete
  82. I love Soaked too. As far as I understand from the audience point of view, the audience is supposed to keep quiet during Soaked so they can feel how beautiful the song (actually his voice, lol) is. The pause is for the audience to burst out their emotion. Unfortunately, it is hard for the audience to stay quiet :-))

  83. 'Feel' how beautiful the song is (actually his voice)...I just LOVE feeling his voice...I still wonder what he thinks about at that moment! I personally wish the audience would be quiet while he is singing and go crazy after he performs each song...can't get enough of his BIG TALENTED VOCALS!!!!

  84. Hi. I hope your ok. The 'few days away' seem to have stretched out to more than a month. No tweeting, no blogging....

Hope all is well. Miss you. Peace.

  85. AB, you are really missed. Are you gonna go to Adam's show in UK? By the way, I thought of you when watching this clip from last night (Sept 15) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBlblyi2s9U, because Adam showed his "talented tongue" again (around 12:20). It was such an epic farewell to LP, his drummer. LP loves Adam so much, you can see how he abruptly ran down the stage to hug Adam, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OL2wHnNIggU . It is like he couldn't restrain. Oh yeah, he did repeatedly say he loved Adam to death http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/9569221 .

    AB, please come back.

  86. SO HAPPY TO HAVE YOU BACK!!!!

  87. Cougar65, I can feel your enthusiasm jumping off my screen! He recently answered your question in an interview and said he was just trying to emote the lyrics during the Soaked pause.

Anonymous(es), I wonder how Adam feels about the screams during Soaked. I can understand that people would lose their shit hearing such a voice and want to show their appreciation! While they can be annoying, I think they give Adam encouragement. I think it's very difficult performing in front of a silent audience.
Thanks for all the links, it'll be interesting to see how the dynamics of the band change. LP is a brilliant drummer but I think was also a great cement for the band.

angelax, I'm fine, thank you. I was away for a week but I had a guest follow me back and stay for three! It was good to be out and about to enjoy the last of the summer though.

sjfalex, have you managed to get tickets to any of the Singapore dates? That's going to be awesome. I know there are some people on Twitter are going. If you want someone to go with, perhaps you could check out the Singapore Glamberts site?

I was surprised to see that the Rock Star Weekly cover uses my shopped version of Lee Cherry's Frontiers pic rather than an original photo. A load of those feathers on the left were ones I added to extrapolate the image.
